I am conveniently located at 1190 Bryant Street, on the corner of 10th and Bryant, San Francisco. I have 40 years experience in art restoration, and am a nationally recognized specialist in color and design. I began in the industry in 1967, working for "Arts and Crafts" in Chico, California, as a picture framer, designer, gallery manager, curator and interior designer. In 1986 I began working independently as "Guy Downing Art Conservators", also in Chico California. I worked in close affiliation with the art gallery "James Snidle Fine Arts". In 2002 I relocated to San Francisco, where I restore art work in my studio, and tend to our private gallery in the south of Market area, San Francisco.
I have conserved or restored artwork from around the world, including such artists as Rembrandt, Picasso, Whistler, Cassat, Durer, Hassam; many Early California artists such as Wm. Keith, Grandville Redmond, Armin Hansen, Guy Rose, and many, many more.
My partner James Snidle and I have a gallery for private viewing and purchases, with a wide variety of periods, mediums and styles. We also offer our clients occasional receptions for new and interesting collections that we will feature. Once I am familiar with the tastes of a client, I am able to seek out, purchase and/or conserve pieces of art for that clients tastes. We have helped corporations realize great public recognition for their interest in and support of fine art.
Guy Downing Art Restoration and James Snidle Fine Arts still operate a gallery in Chico, California. The gallery offers art services such as restoration, repairs and framing, as well as a changing collection of art. Through James, services such as art consulting, dealing and brokering, and assessing are also available.
